New Zealand is increasing its visa fees and visitor levy starting October 1, 2024. The International Visitor Conservation and Tourism Levy (IVL) will triple from NZD 35 to NZD 100 per eligible person ¹ ² ³ ⁴. This change aims to recover the rising costs of processing visas and maintain the immigration system's efficiency ¹.
New Visa Fees:
- Visitor Visa: NZD 246 to NZD 310 ¹
- Student Visa: NZD 375 to NZD 530 ¹
- Working Holiday Scheme: NZD 245 to NZD 300 ¹
- Work Visa (Essential Skills): NZD 495 to NZD 720 ¹
- NZeTA (International Visitors): NZD 17 to NZD 23 ¹
Who Needs to Pay the IVL:
Most travelers applying for visas, including visitor visas, student visas, working holiday and work exchange schemes, and specific purpose work visas, will need to pay the IVL ¹.
Exemptions:
Travelers from countries with fee-waiver agreements will be exempt from paying visa fees, but still need to pay the IVL ¹.
Additional Funding for ESOL Programs:
80% of the costs for English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) programs in New Zealand schools will be funded by those using the immigration system, with the government covering the remaining 20% ¹.
